Seminar on "Promoting the Development of Small Class Teaching: The Role of School Leaders" (22-12-2004)

 

About the Seminar

Nowadays, small class teaching has been implemented at full scale in the Yang Pu District of Shanghai. We were very pleased to have invited the officials in charge of this as well as the senior school heads to speak for the local educators, about the ways to steer the development of small class teaching.

In order to allow more in depth discussion among the educations between the two places, the organizer had divided the participants into 3 groups to conduct panel discussion under each of the following themes.

1) Resource Allocation
2) Professional Developmant of Teaches
3) Effectiveness Assessment

Mr. Xi Jia Hong (Division Head, Division of Compulsory Education, Shanghai Yang Pu District Education Bureau), Miss Feng Wei (School Headmistress, Da Hu Shan Primary School I, Yang Pu District, Shanghai) and Mr. Zhang Zhi (School Headmaster, Yang Pu Primary School, Yang Pu District, Shanghai) talked about the tactics of resource allocation for small class teaching in the Yang Pu District.
Mr. Zou Xue Feng (Deputy Head of the Centre of Research for Primary School, Shanghai Yang Pu District Education Bureau) and Ms Ding Li Min (School Headmistress, Ping Liang Lu Primary School III, Yang Pu District, Shanghai) shared the roles they play in facilitating the development of teachers from both the school and government perspectives.

Ms Fang Ying (Deputy Division Head, Division of Compulsory Education, Shanghai Yang Pu District Education Bureau), Ms Shen Jin (School Headmistress, Jian She Primary School, Yang Pu District, Shanghai) and Ms. Liu Rong Ming (School Headmistress, Er Liang Primary School, Yang Pu District, Shanghai) initiated a rigorous discussion of the assessment methods on the effectiveness of small class teaching.
