Chan Wai-yu ³¯´f´r

* Certificate in Early Childhood Education Year 3 student
* Platinum Award winner of 2003-2004 Quality Teacher Development Award Scheme

The general impression many people have of early childhood education workers is of babysitting toddlers at playgroups and perhaps, at most, teaching them the A, B, C. Wai-yu feels that early childhood education has long been underrated. She firmly believes it should not be taken lightly; rather it should be seen as forming the foundation of lifelong learning.

After pursuing an Early Childhood Education Certificate programme, Wai-yu's understanding of the importance of professional training increased. She hopes that the development of early childhood education will be given due attention and the status of early childhood educators be recognised. Guided by her passion, she motivated the pre-service students to establish The HKIEd Early Childhood Education Students' Association (ECESA) in order to strength their sense of belonging. Through an eight-month "Early Childhood Education Volunteer Service Campaign", kindergartens and early childhood centres are given assistance in the organisation of activities while HKIEd students are given the opportunities to learn through practice. It is also through these invaluable contributions, on all fronts, that team spirit and solidarity are built.
