VENUE

In September 1998, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou University, Zhejiang Agricultural University and Zhejiang Medical University, all located in the garden city of Hangzhou, merged into one to form the New Zhejiang University. Approved by the State Council, the founding of the New Zhejiang University will be a significant move in the reform and development of China's higher education. The four Universities all originated from the same ancestry, the Qiushi Academy, which was founded a century ago (1897) as one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in China.

Now, there are 30,000 full-time students in the New Zhejiang University, among which there are 3,500 postgraduates, 1500 doctoral program students and 400 overseas students. There are 800 professors, 1600 associate professors, 7 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science, and 6 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Zhejiang University offers 12 postdoctoral research programs, 124 doctoral programs and 192 postgraduate programs. It also has 13 National Leading Academic Disciplines, 2 National Engineering Research Center, 9 National Training Bases and Courses Bases, 10 National Laboratories, I Open Laboratory of Ministry of Education and 2 State Engineering Technology Research Center. Up to now, the New Zhejiang University is the largest university stands erect on the China land.

As a key university directly under the Ministry of Education, the New Zhejiang University will be a first-rate institution of higher learning in the country in terms of both general strength and standards of teaching and research. Also it will take full advantage of the opportunity and make every effort to forge ahead and built itself into an institution up to the level of the first-class universities in the world.

HANGZHOU - TOURIST ATTRACTION

Your host city HANGZHOU is a beautiful garden city world-wide famous for its scenic beauty, especially in Autumn. She is the capital of Zhejiang Province, and one of the Six ancient capitals of China. A famous idiom in China is: We have Su & Hang in the Earth as well as Paradise in the sky. It means that Suzhou & Hangzhou are as beautiful as Paradise. We will arrange one day of conference schedule for tour in Hangzhou scenery. You can fly from Singapore or Hong Kong to Hangzhou directly. It can also be easily reached via Shanghai or Beijing. From Beijing to Hangzhou, it has 5 to 7 flights from morning to night every day. Only 1 hr. and 40 min. is of the flight time on the sky. From Shanghai to Hangzhou, it takes about 1.5 ~ 2.0 hrs. by express train, or 2 hrs. by car on highway.
