Support Scheme for Excellent University ePortfolio Supervision

The Support Scheme for Excellent University ePortfolio (UePortfolio) Supervision is established to recognize UePortfolio Supervisors who have provided insightful guidance and feedback to students in the process of their UePortfolio development; supported in-depth reflection for constructing students’ UePortfolios; and facilitated students’ further empowerment to articulate the knowledge, experiences and reflections in their UePortfolios.

UePortfolio is not just a piece of homework, but also a summary of students' own university life. Therefore, when we teach, we need to let students understand the meaning of this assignment, and guide them to reflect on their university learning experience over the past few years, and then plan for their future career development.

At the same time, since UePortfolio is a personal assignment, personal consultation is very important. Based on my teaching experience last year, I usually had three or more formal/ informal individual consultations with students. Although this is a very time-consuming job, during this communication process, I also have the opportunity to reflect on my teaching and my life, so it is also an activity where teaching and learning are mutually reinforcing.

I have been the UePortfolio supervisor since the first launch of the course.  In the beginning, it was quite difficult to lead the students to reflect on their experiences in university life.  With the support of GE Office that they enriched the teaching resources year by year and my learning of teaching the course, I found the valuable meaning of being the UePortfolio supervisor.  I like being with the students, listening to their experiences and stimulating them to review and reflect on their growth through different experiences.  The students treasured their university life experiences and started to embark on their future plans after graduation.  All in all, I enjoy teaching the course.

UE course is a wonderful opportunity for me to interact with students from other departments. It has a student-centered design model. I believe students have their strengths and expertise before entering my class. My role is to facilitate my students to consolidate their learning experience at the Education University of Hong Kong with proper critical reflection strategies. After introducing them to the critical reflection framework, I encourage them to share their ideas in class. I treasure the discussion time with my students, which allows me to guide them through the development of their UePortfolio. I am grateful to work with my students and contribute to the General Education Office.
