SEC Departmental Attendance Policy & Classroom Teaching Hours

SEC Departmental Attendance Policy

Follow the programme specific attendance requirements.  If programmes have no specific attendance requirements, the following attendance requirements would be imposed on the courses offered by the Department:

  • Full-time programmes: 80%

  • Part-time programmes: 70%

  • A course provided to Programmes in different modes: 70%

Students who fail to fulfill the minimum attendance requirement will be given an F (fail) grade for the course.

Classroom Teaching Hours

As indicated in the GAR(Item 7 Study Load) , the number of credit points assigned to a course is indicative of the number of hours of student effort, which include both contact hours and study time.  In terms of contact hours, one credit point should normally be equivalent to one hour of teaching per week each for 13 teaching weeks in a semester. ( i.e. 1 cp = 13 teaching hours)

However, SEC Department agreed that at least 30 face-to-face contact hours must be maintained but each course team should be given flexibility for deciding the exact teaching mode of the remaining 9 teaching hours for a 3 cp courses, such as reading weeks or on-line learning, so long as the 13 weeks teaching activities are accounted for in the course teaching schedule.
