From Five Loaves Two Fish to Accepting Each Other: according to Mark 6:30 – 8:21

Date: 18 March 2016 (Fri)
Time: 1:15pm – 2:15pm
Venue: C-LP-02, Tai Po Campus
Speaker: Dr. Kasper Wong (Ph.D., Catholic University of Leuven; Professor of Biblical Studies, China Graduate School of Theology)
Bible verses: Mark 6:30 – 8:21
Extract: Mark 6:30-8:21 begins and ends with Jesus’ miracle of “feeding”. However, the main theme is His identity rather than His power. If “Feeding the Five Thousand” is interpreted as Jesus being the Messiah for the Jews, “Feeding the Four Thousand” that follows should be understood as Jesus being the Messiah for the gentiles. In between these two miracles, the discussion about “ceremonial violation and defiled hearts” and the miracles in Tyre and Sidon are in line with this theme. God accepts human beings regardless of their cultural and racial differentiation.
