Wendy Keeling came to Hong Kong in 1995. As a trained scientist from the UK, the idea of being a teacher had not yet dawned on her. "Upon my arrival, I couldn't locate a job in a science-related field as I am not a Cantonese speaker. Instead I was approached to give English private tuition to children. Perhaps I am destined to be a teacher, as I subsequently landed on a number of jobs in the education field." Wendy's interest in teaching was kindled from the day she assumed the English tuition job. "I was amazed at the curiosity and enthusiasm of the students. And each day was a challenging new experience for me. Having confirmed my interest in teaching and my desire to know more about my students, I started to search for my ideal professional training course."

After much research Wendy decided to pursue the Postgraduate Diploma of Education (Primary) Programme (PGDE-P) at HKIEd, as it best suited her needs. "I completed a Master of Education Degree at the University of Sheffield in UK, but I still found I had more to learn in the Hong Kong context. The PGDE-P Programme at HKIEd complemented my previous learning experiences."
