The Launch Ceremony EdUHK Christian Faith and Development Centre and Seminar on “Promoting Christian Faith and Values in Schools: Challenges and Prospects” was held on 16 Dec 2014.

Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung , the President of the EdUHK, expressed his gratitude with his welcome speech. After that, Mr. Pang Yiu-kai, the Chairman of the EdUHK Council delivered his speech. Mr. Pang mentioned the purpose of the new Centre was to contribute to spiritual growth of the next generation to build a better world, through Christian faith. The officiating guests of the kick-off ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. Pang Yiu-kai, the Chairman of the EdUHK Council, Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, the President of the EdUHK, Professor Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice President (Research and Development), Ms Sarah Wong, Vice President (Administration), Professor Daniel Chow, Acting Head of Department of Health and Physical Education and Director of EdUHK Christian Faith and Development Centre, Professor Samuel Leong, Associate Dean of Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Doctor Christina Yu, Director of School Partnership and Field Experience Office.

Performances included Instrumental Ensemble and Psalms 23 Verse Speaking by Ma On Shan Ling Liang Kindergarten, Choral performance by the EdUHK Students’ Union Christian Fellowship Choir, Choral performance “Sun Above the Clouds” by Christian Family Service Centre Shun On Choir and Choral Performance “Every Child’s a Promise” by the EdUHK Chorus & EdUHK Staff Choir.

In the Seminar, guest speakers from school sponsoring bodies included the Right Revd. Andrew Chan from Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Education Services, Dr. Cheung Man Biu from Tsung Tsin Mission of Hong Kong, Mr. Tsang Ka Shek from The Baptist Convention of Hong Kong, Mr. Wong Kwok Kong from The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong School Education Department, Sister Wong Yuek Han, Episcopal Delegate for Education of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong and Dr. Yu Huen from the Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China Education Services Department. Our honorable guest commentator was the Revd. Canon Thomas Pang from Religious Education Resource Centre. In short, the speakers found the following aspects significant in Christian education: a loving, accepting and forgiving atmosphere in schools; principals leading as servant leaders; concrete and useful information from applied research.

The visions of the Centre are summarized in three main areas:

1.  To introduce Christian faith and values to students and staff of the EdUHK.

2.  To support and participate in Christian education in schools.

3.  As a platform, to offer Christian perspectives in understanding economics, social, cultural,
     moral and spiritual issues.
