With the generous support of the Tin Ka Ping Education Fund, our department had the pleasure of hosting Professor Qinggong Li from the School of Psychology at Zhejiang Normal University. Professor Li visited us from 19 February to 2 March 2024.
During his visit, Professor Li engaged in a range of activities, including meetings with the board members of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, consultations with our faculty members and research postgraduate students, as well as delivering two talks.
On 23 February 2024, Professor Li presented a public hybrid seminar entitled "How to Teach Young Children Not to Go with Strangers". Drawing on empirical studies, Professor Li explored the developmental trends in young children's ability to resist the influence of strangers and the factors that impact this ability. He also shared effective strategies and recommendations for educators to teach young children about stranger safety. The seminar generated lively discussions among faculty members, undergraduate and postgraduate students, scholars from various institutions, and psychology practitioners. Approximately 50 individuals attended the seminar.
On 27 February 2024, Professor Li presented another hybrid seminar titled "The Effect of the Text Style of Public Figures' Statements on Trust Repair". Professor Li and his team conducted relevant research in this area and utilized the findings to propose a series of suggestions for handling public crises and countering the spread of rumors. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions using real-life examples of statements made by public figures. Around 30 scholars and students took part in the seminar.
The staff and students gained valuable insights into their research topics and discussed potential opportunities for research collaboration.
