Dear Colleagues and Passengers of Route 1,

Subsequent to our last announcement of 29 December 2023, we would like to give you an update on the patronage situation of the Staff Bus Route 1 after its last fares adjustment introduced on 8 January 2024.

As shown in the below passenger statistics of Staff Bus Route 1 captured since October 2023, it is noted that there was a slight increase in the average daily number of passengers during the period from 8 January up to 31 January 2024 compared with the previous months.  However, such figure was still less than the one recorded in the last October and much below the required breakeven level that has been emphasized before.  Such situation also reflects many passengers have opted for other means despite their promises given to us before that they would continue to support the operation of this Route even after fares increase.

As mentioned in our previous announcement on 9 December 2023 and the subsequent reminder on 5 January 2024, we have to stress again that should there be no substantial improvement in the aggregate revenue and passenger figures for the Staff Bus Route 1, it would not be financially feasible and sustainable to continue the present operation under the prevailing principle of self-financing as established. 

We will review the financial situation of this Route again at the end of February 2024 and decide whether it is still financially viable to keep it running by then.
