Agricultural Biotechnology

Biotechnology contributes great benefits to agriculture in the 21st century.

With the development of techniques in modern biotechnology, especially genetic engineering, alternative tools were offered to improve the quality and quantity of both the livestock and crop plants.

Benefits of Biotechnology to Agriculture

1. New and improved agricultural products such as food with higher quality.

2. Growth and productivity of both livestock and crops were improved.

3. Crops and farm animals develop greater tolerance to stresses such as climate and flooding.

4. Microbial pest-control agents are produced, e.g. biopesticides, bioherbicides.

5. Better diagnostics are developed to monitor animal health.
