The Department of Social Sciences was established in July 2009 alongside a major reorganization of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. All of the department's teaching, research and administrative staff are dedicated to: 

(1) achieving the highest standards of teaching and learning in the social sciences, in the process developing our students' sense of global citizenship and their ability to make the best possible contribution to the organizations for which they work and the communities in which they live;

(2) conducting innovative, internationally recognized research leading to publications that push theoretical boundaries while having significant real-world applicability; and 

(3) serving the community in ways that reflect our caring for fellow members of society and for the world in which we live, in the process serving as role models for our students and peers.
