Scholarships, awards and prizes aim at recognizing and encouraging students' academic achievements. They are granted to students on the basis of academic merits. Other attributes like leadership qualities, involvement in extra-curricular activities and community services will also be considered. Some scholarships are open for application while some are by nomination from departments or offices of the Institute.
I. SCHOLARSHIPS
A. General Information
Scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of academic merits, leadership abilities, contribution to community service and other special criteria as stipulated by the donors. Most scholarships are donated by outside organizations and individuals. In general, the higher the scholarship value, the higher the requirements will be. The types of scholarships available at the Institute are as follows:
1. Full Scholarships
This scholarship covers the necessary fees incurred in a whole-year study at the Institute, including tuition fee, hall fee, living and academic expenses. The number of tenable years is different for different scholarships.
Example: The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship (tenable for 3 or 4 years, for undergraduate students only), HKIEd Full Entrance Scholarship (tenable for the normal duration of the study programme, for undergraduate students only).
2. Entrance Scholarships
Established for undergraduate programmes, there are several types of Entrance Scholarships:
Ø “HKIEd Full Entrance Scholarship” – this scholarship covers the necessary fees incurred in a whole-year study, including tuition fee, hall fee, living and academic expenses, tenable for the normal duration of the study programme.
Ø “HKIEd Entrance Scholarship for Local Students” (academic performance and/or outstanding non-academic achievements) and various Entrance Scholarships donated by organizations or individuals for local students – the academic scholarship covers tuition fee and part of hall fee, tenable for the normal duration of the study programme.
Ø “HKIEd Entrance Scholarship for Non-local Mainland / International Students” (academic performance and/or outstanding non-academic achievements) – the academic scholarship covers full or half tuition fee, tenable for the normal duration of the study programme.
Ø “Bachelor of Music in Education Entrance Scholarship” – a scholarship amount equivalent to the annual tuition fee is to be awarded to one or shared by two candidates, tenable for three years.
Ø “HKIEd Tai Po Goodwill Entrance Scholarship” – this scholarship covers tuition fee and part of hall fee, tenable for the first year of study.
Ø “Parsons Entrance Scholarship for BEd (Music)” – this scholarship covers part of tuition fee for first year students of the Bachelor of Education (Music) programme.

5. Exchange Study (One Semester)
Established to enhance students’ international exposure through their participation in the Institute’s Student Exchange Programme.

6. Overseas Study (One Year)
The value of this scholarship covers tuition fee, lodging fee, living and academic expenses for a one-year overseas study.

8. Students with Disabilities

C. Scholarship Presentation Ceremony
The Student Affairs Office organizes a Scholarship Presentation Ceremony every year to publicly recognize the outstanding achievement of students and graduates, provide a chance for donors and scholarship recipients to meet together, and show appreciation to the donors for their generous donation.
In the 2011/12 academic year, the Ceremony was held on 6 June 2012 at the Institute's Tai Po Campus. Attendance was over 300 including scholarship donors or representatives from organizations, scholarship recipients & their guests, staff and students. A gathering between donors and scholarship recipients was arranged prior to the Ceremony.
The Ceremony was hosted by two students who were scholarship recipients. The programme consisted of a speech by Professor Anthony Cheung, presentation of scholarships to scholarship recipients, presentation of souvenir to donors, performance by scholarship recipient, vote of thanks by student representative, group photo and refreshment. The Ceremony was very well-received.
II. HKIEd STUDENT AWARDS
A. General Information
HKIEd Student Awards are granted to students by the Institute based on a set of criteria such as academic performance, block practice performance, leadership qualities, contribution to the Institute or the community and participation in extra-curricular activities. The Awards include:

There are also other scholarships, awards and prizes offered by the Institute’s departments, offices or outside organizations. Details will be made by the relevant unit at the time of application. Please refer to the announcements posted in the intranet and on notice boards.
All scholarships and awards are administered by the Institute’s Committee on Scholarships and Prizes. The Student Affairs Office is the central coordinating unit.
