New President Committed to
Taking HKIEd to New Heights
2 January 2008
The new President of Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd), Professor Anthony B.L. Cheung, said on assuming duty today (2 January 2008) that he hopes in his new job to realize the full potential of the institution.
“Building on solid foundations, we will strive to further enhance our academic and research capabilities; better prepare our students to become change agents in education; foster links with education groups and the community for mutual support; and last but not least, elevate the status of educators and the teaching profession with the attainment of a University Title,” he said.
“HKIEd is well equipped to spearhead new education initiatives as well as supporting the community on its various education needs, in line with the strategic directions laid down by the Institute’s Development Blueprint 2007-2017” he added.
The new president said he would encourage an open and participatory work style. He will start by trying to meet as many colleagues and students as possible in the early months. He started his first day in office with briefings from the two vice presidents, before a short meeting with members of the media.
