LOAP Survey Research

Title:

Tertiary Teachers・ and Students・ Views and Experiences of Assessment

Rationale:

  1. Assessment, when aligned appropriately with the curriculum and teaching-learning ethos of an institution, provides a powerful catalyst for learning.
  2. Yet little research on how teachers/students view and experience various aspects of assessment in tertiary education in Hong Kong.
  3. Good knowledge of Hong Kong・s tertiary assessment landscape and some of its problems would help educators deliberate on the kind of assessment renewal or reform that would be feasible in the Hong Kong context.

Objectives:

  1. To obtain a picture of tertiary teachers・ and students・ beliefs about the purposes of assessment.
  2. To obtain a picture of tertiary teachers・ and students・ experience of assessment.
  3. To find out problems in the assessment process experienced by teachers and students.
  4. To compare teachers・ and students・ beliefs and experience of assessment.
  5. To consider directions for assessment renewal and more effective/efficient ways of tackling problems in assessment.

Intended outcomes:

  1. Conference presentations and book chapters/journal articles
  2. Survey reports disseminated to interested colleagues
