Andrew Cohen is Professor of Applied Linguistics in the English as a Second Language Department at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, where he is Director of the National Language Resource Center at the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA). He is also Secretary General of the International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA). He has published articles on language teaching, language learning, language testing, and research methods, as well as books on language learning strategies: Strategies in learning and using a second language (Longman, 1998) and on language testing: Assessing language ability in the classroom (Newbury House/Heinle & Heinle, 1994). He is co-editor with Lyle Bachman of Interfaces between second language acquisition and language testing research (Cambridge University Press, 1998), and with Elaine Tarone and Susan Gass of Research methodology in second-language acquisition (Lawrence Erlbaum, 1994).
Zoltán Dörnyei is Reader at the School of English Studies, University of Nottingham, where he is Co-Director of the Centre for Research in Applied Linguistics. His research interests are in psychological aspects of second language acquisition focussing on the role of motivation. He is the author of many publications. His latest works are Motivational strategies in the language classroom (Cambridge University Press, 2001) and Teaching and researching motivation (Longman, 2001). He is the co-editor of Motivation and second language acquisition (University of Hawaii Press, 2001), and the assistant editor of the journal Language Learning. He is the reviewer for many academic journals, including Applied Linguistics, Canadian Modern Language Review, and Language and Education.
Marion Williams is Reader in Applied Linguistics at the School of Education, University of Exeter, where she is co-ordinator of the teacher education programmes in Teaching English as a Foreign Language as well as Director of the Doctor of Education programme. She has been involved in teacher education for thirty years in different countries. Her research interests are in psychological aspects of language learning and teaching. She is the author of numerous publications, mainly in the field of psychology and teacher education, and is joint author of the book Psychology for language teachers (Cambridge University Press) together with Robert Burden.
Lu Jianming is Professor in the Department of Chinese and Director of Center for Chinese Linguistics, Peking University. His research and scholarly interests focus on Modern Chinese Language, and he has published substantial articles and books on this area.
Ho San Pen is Professor in the Language Education Department of Taitung Teachers' College. He mainly works on the language education and publishes many books and academic articles related to language education.
Ho Shu Chen is Professor in the Chinese Literature Department of Kaohsiung Normal University. Her major studies include the Chinese language grammar and rhetoric and the teaching method of Chinese language.
Sin Chow Yiu is Professor and Head of the Department of Chinese, the University of Hong Kong, Fellow of the Centre of Asian Studies, Honorary Professor of the Central China Normal University, Chief Editor of the Journal of Oriental Studies, and editorial committee member of the Zhongguo yuwen, Sino Humanitas, and Lingnan Journal. He has been teaching Zuozhuan
, Chinese paleography and historical phonology since 1975.
