INTRODUCTION
This programme provides a solid subject-based grounding for practitioners
in the music profession while at the same time satisfies their need in further
developing understanding in thinking, research and practice in music
education relevant to their professional roles. |

PROGRAMME AIMS
The programme aims to deepen and strengthen students’ professional
aptitude in their chosen music domain such as composition, performance,
or research; cultivate synergy between subject and pedagogical strengths
in music; and help students develop and apply skills in creative and critical
thinking, research and arts practice to the professional fields of music and
music education.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The programme comprises 24 credit points (cps) divided into three areas of
study:
CORE (9 cps), FOCUS (9 cps) and ELECTIVE (6 cps).
CORE – 3 mandator y courses (9 cps) will provide essential training in
research skills, aesthetic and critical thinking in music while offering specific
subject-based grounding of common need. |

FOCUS – Participants may choose to concentrate on any one of the
following foci of study each comprising 9 cps.
It offers three different foci to meet participant needs:
(a) Composition and Pedagogy; (b) Performance and Pedagogy; and (c)
Mixed-mode.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION
The medium of instruction is English. |
TUITION FEE
The tuition fee for the whole programme is HK$96,000, i.e.
HK$4,000 per credit point, subject to adjustment. Tuition
fees paid are normally not refundable or transferable. |
INTAKE STRUCTURE
There are two intakes in January and September each year. |
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should normally hold a recognized Bachelor’s
degree or equivalent with music as either major or minor
subject. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an
interview.
Non-native English speakers are required to demonstrate
competency through one of the minimum requirements
as listed on the “Application and Admission” Section
or completion of f irst degree at a university where the
programme studied was taught in English.
Notes: Holders of degrees from most Hong Kong tertiary
institutions are exempted from this requirement. |
