Dr. YU Huen is Associate Professor of the Department of Educational Policy and Administration of The Hong Kong Institute of Education. In the Department, he is at present the Convenor of Educational Management and Leadership Group.

Dr. YU received his Ph.D. Degree and M.Ed. Degree from The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) of the University of Toronto. His major research areas include school management, principal leadership, middle management, school-based management and educational change. He has been actively participating in conducting educational research such as Hong Kong principals¡¦ transformational leadership and teachers¡¦ commitment to change, school culture, challenges of school middle managers, consultancy study on the effectiveness of graduate teachers in public-sector primary schools, the study of Hong Kong primary whole day school system, school-institute collaboration development projects, etc. Dr. YU has been invited as a member of the Editorial Board of an international journal, The South African Journal of Education, and reviewer of some international journals. He was an adviser of the Working Group on the Professional Development of Principals of the Education Department. He has been actively involved in the principal professional development projects for newly appointed principals and serving principals commissioned by the Education Department (now the Education Manpower Bureau) in Hong Kong. He is a member of the Steering Committee on Principals¡¦ Professional Development, and Advisory Group on School Development and Accountability of Education and Manpower Bureau. He has also participated in the Sri Lanka Principals Development Project and Cambodian Secondary Inspectors Training Project. At present, he is organizing training programs for school middle management. His publication is mainly focused on school leadership: ¡§The Effects of Transformational Leadership on Teachers¡¦ Commitment to Change in Hong Kong¡¨ in the Journal of Educational Administration, ¡§A Shift in Hong Kong Principals¡¦ Leadership Conceptions¡¨ in the Asian Pacific Education Review, and ¡§The Implementation of School-based Management and Principals¡¦ Transformational Leadership in Hong Kong¡¨, an invited paper presented at the First National Conference of the Educational Management Research Association, GuangZhou, China.

In addition, Dr. YU has had fruitful experiences in educational administration as a senior teacher, principal, trainer and consultant. He has had 16 years¡¦ principalship experience in schools in Hong Kong. His long-standing personal and professional residency in Hong Kong in parochial and other domains has allowed him to benefit from and contribute to various organizations by giving talks and providing consultancy to them. He has been a central council member of a large sponsoring body which runs over fifty secondary and primary schools for many years. He is currently a supervisor of one secondary school and two primary schools.
