Laboratory renovation project to suit 3+3+4/5 new education system

To renovate some 30 special labs and some 10 multi-purpose labs on campus to suit new teaching needs of the 3+3+4/5 new education system.

Expected to be completed in Aug 2012.

Improvement Works at Lecture Theatre 1 at C-LP-11

To improve the existing acoustic, lighting performances and interior decoration for hosting concert, multi-media, teaching and learning functions.

Expected to be completed in mid 2012.

Learning Commons Project in Block C

To extend the learning commons area on LP/F and P/F of Block C for learning and interaction by student and staff.

Completion by end of 2011.

Improvement Works at the Gymnasium of H Y Cheung Sports Hall at Block E

To construct a new means of escape and improve the interior of main gymnasium for holding multi-purpose functions and congregation with maximum 1250 persons capacity.

Completion by end of 2011.

Construction of a Permanent Canopy at the Central Plaza

To construct a permanent canopy to replace the temporary tensile cover, using the advanced Cube, Ethylene Tetra-Fluoro-Ethylene (ETFE) cushion system for its roof materials, so as to enhance the use of the Central Plaza for institute/student events all year around.

Completion in July 2011.

Replacement of Air-cooled Chillers by Water-cooled Chillers

To replace the existing air conditioning plant by a water-cooled system to improve plant efficiency by 25-40%, and to achieve an estimated annual energy saving of 1,200MWh and a corresponding annual reduction in CO2 emission from electricity generation of around 1,200,000Kg, upon completion of first phase.

Completion in June 2011.

Classroom conversion for the "3+3+4" new education system

To modify and refurbish the existing 57 classrooms to suit the new teaching needs in anticipation of “3+3+5” curriculum.

The first and second phases were completed in Dec 2010 and May 2011 respectively.

Institute’s Reception

To create a proper reception area for the Institute’s overseas delegation visits, press conferences, worldwide events and to fully utilize the prime location at Block A – G/F of the Information Centre, the said area shall be fitted out as a delegation reception cum multi-purpose area. The Information Centre shall be relocated to another room also on G/F.

Completion in August 2010.

Provision of access platform in the service voids of the hostels

To construct the access platform in each services voids of the student hostel A, B & C to provide the accessible area for inspection and maintenance works in the services voids.

Completion in August 2010.

Conversion of G/F of Block E into a Conference Centre

To convert the area on G/F of Block E into a permanent multi-functional venue for Institutional activities, for which basic decoration of walls, ceiling and floor, construction of some functional rooms and installation of audio-visual equipment were done.

Completion in August 2010.

Safety Provision for Lifts in Tai Po Campus

To install the Rope Gripper so as to improve the lift safety and prevent it from unexpected upward movement.

Completion in December 2009.

Installation of Sensor-operated Water Taps for toilets in Tai Po Campus and Pak Shek Kok Sports Centre and Student Hostels

To replace the existing hand-operated water taps in toilets with sensor-operated ones to reduce the risk of bacteria contamination through the hand wheels of water taps.

Completion in December 2009.

Learning Commons (Phase I)

To convert original ITS offices and laboratories into area for learning commons providing spaces for students to learn, interact and discuss with convenient access to the Library and IT help desk.

Completion in November 2009.

Renovation of Student Canteen at Block C

To refurbish of student canteen for both seating and kitchen area with a cafe area to offer more food/catering choices.

Completion in September 2009.

Conversion of Computer Room of Town Centre Room 237 to Creative Media Lab

To upgrade the PC computers at room 237 of Town Centre to a Creative Media Lab so as to enhance teaching effectiveness through the provision of Mac-based computers.

Completion in September 2009.

Conversion of 300P Lecture Theatre into a Multi-functional Venue

To change a regular 300p lecture theatre to a venue to cater for more diverse ceremonies and events with a stage built with basic provisions.

Completion in 2009.

Integration of the Library’s “Bibliographic Instruction” Room into the Mong Man Wai Library

To improve the information literacy programs and to optimize the use of facilities via integration of existing Bibliographic Instruction room at D1-P/F-01 into the 1/F of Mong Man Wai Library.

Completion in June 2009.

Formation of the Hong Kong Museum of Education at D1-P-01

To install a 24-hour humidity controlled room and delicate showcases for display of historical items.

Completion in May 2009.

Thermal Storage System for Chilled Water System

To increase the cooling capacity of the central air conditioning system without increasing the plant size and shift the load to non-peak hours, and reduce the energy consumption by operating the chillers in a more efficient condition.

Completion in March 2009.

Formation of the Children Literature Special Collection in the Library

To establish a Children’s Literature Resources Centre on 3/F of Mong Man Wai Library for advancement of children literature education.

Completion in February 2009.

Pilot Scheme for Teaching Venue Re-modeling at Room D3-LP-02

To convert two computer classrooms to a modern one which will be equipped with new comprehensive AV and teaching equipment and provided with movable furniture to allow flexible teaching needs.  A pilot scheme to create prototypical classroom to suit the 3-3-5 pedagogical change.

Completion in February 2009.
