Acceptable Non-local Qualifications for meeting the General Entrance Requirements for Bachelor's Degree Programmes

The qualifications listed below are accepted as satisfying the General Entrance Requirements for our bachelor's degree programmes. Qualifications not listed below will be considered on individual merits. Applicants may also need to fulfill the subject entrance requirements and/or language requirements. Due to the quota limit, candidates having satisfied the Institute's entrance requirements will be considered for admission on a competitive basis.

Applicants who possess non-local qualification such as US High School Graduation Diploma, SAT or normally a American patterned education with 12 years of pre-university education will be considered for admission to the 4/5-year curriculum (HKDSE Cohort) while those possessing non-local qualification such as a GCE AL, IB Diploma or normally a British patterned education with 13 years of pre-university education will be considered for admission to the 3/4-year curriculum (HKALE cohort).

Australian Capital Territory

Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) minimum 80.00 / Universities Admission Index (UAI) score of 80 or above.


New South Wales
Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) minimum 80.00 / Universities Admission Index (UAI) score of 80 or above.

Northern Territory
A Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) of 80 or above.

Queensland
An Overall Position (OP) Band between 1 and 8.

South Australia
A Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) of 80 or above.

Tasmania
A Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) of 80 or above.

Victoria
A Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank (ENTER) of 80 or above.

Western Australia
A Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) of 80 or above.

Students studying at a recognized university in Australia:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme .

(Foundation, Diploma and Certificate qualifications awarded by colleges or universities in Australia are not recognised for undergraduate admissions.)
Canada High school students in the following provinces:

Alberta
Passes in five acceptable Grade 12 courses, with at least 70% in each of those courses.

British Columbia
Passes in five acceptable subjects in the Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma (Grade 12 or BC Provincially Examinable Courses), with at least grade B in each of those subjects.

Manitoba
Hight school graduation diploma with five full credits at Grade 12 level (i.e. 40 level) in courses designated S(Specialized), G(General), or U(University-based), provided that at least 70% is achieved in three out of the five credits wich should be S or U courses.

New Brunswick
Passes in five acceptable subjects in the High School Graduation Diploma, with at least 70% in each of those subjects.

Newfoundland
Passes at least five acceptable subjects in the Grade 12 High School Diploma, with at least 70% in each of those subjects.

Nova Scotia
Passes in five acceptable Grade 12 subjects in Honours University Preparatory Courses or in University Preparatory Courses in the High School Completion Certificate, with at least 70% in each of those subjects.

Ontario
Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses of which a minimum grade of 70% is obtained in each of these courses.

Prince Edward Island
Passes in five acceptable Grade 12 subjects in the High School Graduation Diploma, with at least 70% in each of those subjects.

Quebec
Diploma d-Etudes Collegiales (DEC) <Diploma of Collegial Studies>

Saskatchewan
Passes in five acceptable subjects of Division IV standing (Grade 12), with at least 70% in each of those subjects.

Students studying at a recognized university in Canada:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.

Qualifications obtained in a college in Canada are not recognized for undergraduate admission.
China

Students taking the National Joint College Entrance Examination Scheme (NJCEES):
Attain the first admission line in the National Joint College Entrance Examination Scheme.

Students at International Schools taking examinations other than the National Joint College Entrance Examination Scheme (NJCEES):
The entrance requirements should follow those of the country to which the qualification belongs.

Students studying at a recognized university in China
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.

France

Students from high schools:
1. Baccalaureat General; or
2. Option Internationle du Baccalaureat (OIB); or
3. European Baccalaureate

Students studying at a recognized university in France:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.

Germany

Students from high schools:
Completion of the High School Degree of Secondary Education (Abitur)/Zeugnis der allgemeinen Hochschulreife (German Abitur certificate).


Students studying at a recognized university in Germany:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.

India

Students from high schools:
Completion of a senior secondary school leaving certificate at Grade 12 level, e.g. All India Senior School Certificate Examination (SSC)/Higher School Certificate/Indian School Certificate (ISC), with 75% or better in each of the subjects, which should include English.


Students studying at a recognized university in India:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.

Indonesia

Students from high schools:
1. Surat Tanda Tamat Belajar Sekolah Menengah Umum Tingkat Atas / STTB:
SMA (Senior Secondary School Certification of Completion)is not sufficient for candidates to make a competitive application. STTB SMA or GCEOL/GCSE, plus GCEAL results as stipulated by the University; or

Completion of SMA Ujian Sekolah; and Completion of SMA Ujian Nasional.

Students studying at a recognized university in Indonesia:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.

Ireland

Irish Leaving Certificate with passes in five subjects at C level or better in Higher level papers.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma An International Baccalaureate Diploma with
(a) Grade 4 or better in the Higher Level English Language (B Syllabus);
(b) Grade 5 or better in the Standard Level English Language (B Syllabus);
(c) Grade 4 or better in the Higher or Standard Level English Language (A1 or A2 Syllabus);
(d) Grade 4 or better in the Standard Level English - Text and Performance; or
(e) Grade 4 or better in the Standard Level English - Literature and Performance (A1 syllabus).
Japan High school students:
1. At least 12 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time basis; and
2. Upper Secondary Certificate of Completion (e.g. Kotogakko Sotsugyo Shomeisho) fulfilling the minimum high school graduation requirement; and either
  (a) A combined score of 1,100 in SAT I (normally 550 in each part); or
  (b) A combined score of 1,650 in the (new) SAT Reasoning Test (including Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) and a sub-score on essay writing of not less than 8; or
  (c) Fulfillment of the General Entrance Requirements and Programme Admission Entrance Requirements for GCE applicants.

Students studying at a recognized university in Japan:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.
Macau

High School Students:
Fulfillment of the General Entrance Requirements and Programme Admission Requirements for GCE applicants.

Students studying at a recognized university in Macau :
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.

Malaysia High School Students
1. Either passes (Grade C or above)in at least 7 subjects at UEC level of which 6 subjects were obtained in the same sitting; or

2.Passes (Grade C or above)in at least 7 subjects at SPM level of which 6 subjects were obtained in the same sitting; AND 3 subjects in Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) in the same sitting, other than language subjects.
 

Students studying at a recognized university in Malaysia:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.
New Zealand High school students:
(a) New Zealand Bursary A; or
(b) New Zealand Bursary B (250 or above)

In and after 2004,
(a) Level 3 or higher - 42 credits, including a minimum of 14 credits in each of two subjects from the approved subjects list; with a further 14 credits from not more than two additional domains on the National Qualifications Framework or approved subjects; and
(b) Level 2 or higher 8 credits in English; 4 credits must be in reading and 4 in writing. These are selected from a list of Standards fulfilling the literacy (Reading and Writing) requirement of the National Qualifications Framework; and
(c) Level 1 or higher 14 credits in Mathematics or Statistics and Probability on the National Qualifications Framework.

Students studying at a recognized university in New Zealand:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.

Foundation, Diploma and Certificate qualifications in New Zealand are not recognized for undergraduate admissions.
Netherlands

Satisfactory completion of Voorbereidend Weternshappelijk Onderwijs (VWO) Diploma.

Norway

Satisfactory completion of Vietnemal - Videregaende opplaring (Upper Secondary Leaving Certificate) endorsed "generell studiekompetanse".

Pakistan
High School Students:
Intermediate/Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) (50% or above) or GCEOL/GCSE, plus GCEAL results stipulated by the University.

Students studying at a recognized university in Pakistan:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.
The Philippines
A bachelor's degree from a recognised university in the Philippines.
Singapore Students taking the GCE A level Examinations:
Fulfillment of the General Entrance Requirements and Programme Admission Requirements for GCE applicants.

Students studying at Polytechnics:
Diploma, Professional Diploma or Technical Diploma awarded by one of the following institutions, provided that the period of study extends over not less than two years full time or four years part time: Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic or Temasek Polytechnic.

Students studying at a recognized university in Singapore:
Succesful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.
South Korea High school students:
1. At least 12 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time basis; and
2. Senior secondary school-leaving certificate (e.g. Inmungye KodBng (Senior High School Diploma) fulfilling the minimum high school graduation requirement; and either
  (a) A combined score of 1100 in SAT I (normally 550 in each part);
(b) A combined score of 1650 in the (new) SAT Reasoning Test (including Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) and a sub-score on essay writing of no less than 8; or
  (c) Fulfillment of the General Entrance Requirements and Programme Admission Entrance Requirements for GCE applicants.

Students studying at a recognized university in South Korea

Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.
Taiwan High school students:
1. At least 12 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time basis; and
2. Senior secondary school-leaving certificate (e.g. Senior High School Diploma) fulfilling the minimum high school graduation requirement; and either
  (a) A combined score of 1100 in SAT I (normally 550 in each part); or
(b) A combined score of 1650 in the (new) SAT Reasoning Test (including Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) and a sub-score on essay writing of not less than 8;or
  (c) An American College Test (ACT) composite score of 23; or
  (d) Grade 3 in two Advanced Placement (AP) subjects; or equivalent.; or
  (e) Fulfillment of the General Entrance Requirements and Programme Admission Entrance Requirements for GCE applicants.

Students studying at a recognized university in Taiwan:

Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.
Thailand High school students:
1. At least 12 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time basis;
2. Senior secondary school-leaving certificate (e.g.Mathayom Suksa 6 - M6) fulfilling the minimum high school graduation requirement; and either
  (a) A combined score of 1100 in SAT I (normally 550 in each part); or
(b) A combined score of 1650 in the (new) SAT Reasoning Test (including Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) and a sub-score on essay writing of not less than 8; or
  (c) Fulfillment of the General Entrance Requirements and Programme Admission Entrance Requirements for GCE applicants.

Students studying at a recognized university in Taiwan:

Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.
United Kingdom For students taking the GCE Examinations:
Grade E or above in two subjects (other than Chinese/Mandarin) in a GCE Advanced Level examination or Grade E in 1 AL plus 2 Advanced Supplementary (AS) subjects (other than Chinese/Mandarin).

For students taking BTEC National Certificate (NC) or National Diploma (ND)
:
At least three full units are passed at Merit level.

For students studying at a recognized university in the UK
:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.

Foundation, Diploma and Certificate qualifications are not recognized for undergraduate admissions.
United States of America High schools students:
1.
The US High School Graduation Diploma;
2. (a) A combined score of 1100 in SAT I (normally 550 in each part); or
(b) A combined score of 1650 in the (new) SAT Reasoning Test (including Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) and a sub-score on essay writing of not less than 8; or
  (c) An American College Test (ACT) composite score of 23; or
  (d) Grade 3 in two Advanced Placement (AP) subjects; or equivalent.

Students studying Associate Degree (AD) in the US or in a US university/college operating in Hong Kong:
(a) The US High School Graduation Diploma; and
(b) At least 12 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time basis; and
(c) Successful completion of one year's study on a full-time AD programme at a recognized US university / community college, provided that the AD programme is at least two years in duration.
Applicants who do not fulfil the requirements above must have obtained the AD in order to be eligible for admission.

Students following Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) in community colleges:
(a) The US High School Graduation Diploma; and
(b) At least 12 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time basis; and
(c) Successful completion of IGETC with Grade C or above in each of the subjects.

Students studying at a recognized university/college in the USA
:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.
