01. What is the difference between JUPAS and Non-JUPAS?
If you are seeking admission on the strength of HKDSE results (current or past years), you should follow the application procedures under JUPAS (Joint University Programmes Admissions System). Otherwise you should submit application direct to the Institute via the direct application (Non-JUPAS) route.

02. Can I apply via both JUPAS and Non-JUPAS routes?
No, you can only apply either through JUPAS or Non-JUPAS route, but not both.

03. What are the General Entrance Requirements of your full-time undergraduate programmes?
For admission to our full-time undergraduate programmes, JUPAS applicants should normally possess the following qualifications:
Four core subjects and one elective subject with:
- Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and EnglishLanguage; and
- Level 2 or above in Mathematics, Liberal Studies, and one elective subject.

04. How will the Institute consider the Extended Part of Maths and the Compulsory Part of Maths?
The Compulsory Part of Maths is a core subject requirement. If you apply for BEd(Primary)-Maths, you need to obtain a Level 3 or above in Compulsory Maths plus a Level 2 or above in one module from the Extended Part of Maths. (i.e. either Module 1 – Calculus and Statistics; or Module 2 – Algebra and Calculus). However, you cannot use it as a substitute for the Compulsory Maths, nor can it be counted as an elective subject for the purpose of meeting the General Entrance Requirements.

05. Will the Institute consider Applied Learning (ApL) subjects?
Yes, "Attained with Distinction" in an ApL subject will be regarded as having met the requirement of an elective subject.

06. How many ApL subjects will be counted?
One only. The Institute will consider the result of the best ApL subject, irrespective of the number of ApL subjects taken by a JUPAS applicant.

07. Will the Institute consider Other Language subjects (French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Hindi and Urdu)?
Yes, Grade E or above in an ‘Other Language’ subject will be accepted as unspecified elective subject.

08. Can IELTS/TOEFL results be used to meet the English Language requirement?
For the purpose of meeting our General Entrance Requirements for JUPAS students, the Institute only accepts results in HKDSE English Language.

|
09. Will preferences be given to students taking more elective subjects?
The Institute will only consider the best results of one elective subject. No bonus point will be given to students taking two or more elective subjects.

|
10. What subject(s) carries more weight when admission is considered?
The assessment weighting varies with programmes on the basis of individual programme needs. For programmes with preferred HKDSE subjects indicated in the entrance requirements, the preferred subjects normally carry more weight. 11. How will the Institute consider Combined Science and Integrated Science?
The Institute will consider Combined Science and Integrated Science the same as Physics, Chemistry or Biology for the purpose of meeting the General Entrance Requirements.

12. Does the Institute consider "combined results" of the HKDSE in the selection process?
We accept multiple sittings in HKDSE. For the purpose of ranking applicants for admission, all recognised public examination results are considered. The best results will be counted for admission purposes. There is no penalty on repeaters.

13. I am applying as a JUPAS applicant. Do I need to attend admission interviews?
BA in Creative Arts and Culture / Bachelor of Education (BEd) / BSocSc in Psychology
You may be required to attend admission interviews if you apply for our BA in Creative Arts and Culture and/or BEd and/or BSocSc in Psychology programmes. In addition, some departments may require applicants to attend specific subject interviews/tests like Early Childhood Education, English, Music, Physical Education and Visual Arts. Applicants who do not turn up for the interviews/tests will not be considered.
BA in Language Studies / BSocSc in Global and Environmental Studies
No admission interview is required for JUPAS applicants.

14. How will the information in School Reference Report (SRR), JUPAS’s OEA form and Student Learning Profile (SLP) be used?
They will be treated as supplementary information. For instance, the information given in school reference report and/or OEA form may be used, alongside other essential information (e.g. band choices) for selecting students for admission interviews.

15. Do I have to put my chosen programme(s) as my Band A choices to enhance the chance of interview?
We believe that applicants who include our programmes as Band A choices are highly likely to have genuine interest in these programmes. Band A applicants will be given higher preferences in the selection process.

16. Can non-Chinese speaking/ethnic minority students use “GCE Chinese” to meet the General Entrance Requirements, in place of “Chinese Language” in HKDSE?
Grade E or above in GCE (A-Level) Chinese or a Grade C or above in GCSE/IGCSE Chinese may be accepted for students meeting one of the following circumstances (certification from schools must be provided by JUPAS):
- The student has learned Chinese Language for less than six years while receiving primary and secondary education; or
- The student has learned Chinese Language for six years or more in schools, but has been taught an adapted and simpler curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of students in our local schools.

17. How would the Institute select students for interviews? When will the interviews be conducted?
We will select applicants to the admission interviews on the basis of their band choices, HKDSE results, information on OEA form and SRR etc. Please click here for details of the interview arrangements.

18. How would I be notified if I am selected for interviews?
You will receive the interview notification via the following means:
- Personal email account registered in the JUPAS online system; and/or
- SMS message(s); and/or
- JUPAS account; and/or
- Institute's website

19. What is the JUPAS Sub-system for School Principal's Nominations?
This sub-system is to give due recognition to students who have contributed to social services or made outstanding achievements in non-academic areas or who have demonstrated leadership abilities.

20. Will I be interviewed if I have been nominated under the JUPAS Sub-system for School Principal's Nominations?
If you choose BA in Creative Arts and Culture / BEd / BSocSc in Psychology, you may be required to attend admission interview provided that
- you have put our programme(s) as your JUPAS Band A choice(s); and
- you have fulfilled the programme admission requirements and our selection criteria.

21. When will I know the outcome of the JUPAS Sub-system for School Principal's Nominations?
If selected, you will be given a conditional offer before the announcement of HKDSE results. Admission results will be announced at the JUPAS Main Round exercise.
|

22. What qualities of BEd candidates are you looking for?
We look for candidates who possess the personal and professional attributes deemed suitable for preparation as future teachers, which can best be summarised as the 4Cs: Character and moral responsibility; Competence and professional excellence; Cultivation of wisdom and intellectual engagement; and Civic-mindedness and social responsibility.

23. If I do not get a JUPAS offer, does the Institute offer any alternative pathway for me to pursue further studies?
In addition to government-funded undergraduate / higher diploma programmes, the Institute also offers a variety of self-financed undergraduate or sub-degree programmes to HKDSE students. 24. If I get a JUPAS offer after accepting a self-financed undergraduate / sub-degree programme of the Institute, can I have my admission acceptance fee refunded?
Yes, the admission acceptance fee you paid for the self-financed undergraduate / sub-degree programme will be fully refunded to you.
