Programme Structure

Discipline Studies

This curriculum covers a wide range of courses that help students to strengthen the concepts and knowledge base required for integrating the three major domains of Liberal Studies: Self and Personal Development, Society and Culture, and Science, Technology, and the Environment. Through various modes of inquiry learning and pedagogical devices, the curriculum enhances students' professional competency and literacy in developing multiple perspectives, skills development and values analysis/clarifications. The different assessment modes, as well as field experience in different school contexts, also equip them for the integration between theories and practices, teaching/learning and assessment. It is anticipated that the Liberal Studies curriculum will build a solid foundation for the professional and/or academic advancement of students in the area of integrated studies.

Education Studies

Education Studies provide opportunities for interdisciplinary inquiry related to teaching and learning. Students will study school education from psychological, sociological, philosophical and practical perspectives. This will provide the basis for developing skills of critical thinking, problem solving and creativity that can be applied to classroom practice. It will enable students to appreciate the professional role of teachers, the importance of developing appropriate skills, values and attitudes that can enhance student learning and the need for commitment to lifelong professional learning. As a result, graduates will become caring and competent beginning teachers with intellectual enthusiasm, social commitment and global awareness.
