Admission Grades

Selection Criteria
We adopt a holistic approach in the assessment of candidates' suitability for teacher education. In selecting students for our BEd & HD programmes, we take into account their public examination results, non-academic achievements, school principal's recommendations and interview performance. All candidates must attend and pass a General Suitability Interview (GSI) which is aimed at assessing if they possess the attributes and motivation to prepare as a professional teacher. Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary School Principals/Senior Teachers serve on our interview panels, together with the academic staff of the Institute. Despite that candidates may have excellent public examination results, they will not be considered for admission if they cannot pass the GSI. For entry to the specific subjects like Visual Arts, English, PE and Music, candidates have to demonstrate a required level of competence in the subject area. For language programmes, candidates for English major studies should possess Grade D or above in ASL Use of English and candidates for Chinese major studies should possess Grade D or above in ASL Chinese Language and Culture.

AL Admission Scores
The AL Admission Scores shown below are the sum total of the best 2 AL subjects or 1 AL subject plus 2 ASL subjects (any ASL subjects including Use of English and Chinese Language and Culture). For the purpose of score calculation, subject grades are converted into numeric values (for AL subjects: A= 10, B= 8, C= 6, D= 4, E= 2; for ASL subjects: A= 5, B= 4, C= 3, D= 2, E= 1). Candidates' score at the GSI will be aggregated together with their AL admission scores to form an "Overall Admission Score".

It is important to note that the admission scores announced here are for reference only. The examination results and admission interview results of students admitted to each programme vary from year to year and should not be used to predict the chance of admission in future years.
