This course equips participants with the professional knowledge and skills of speech- language pathologists which emphasis on the fundamentals of clinical assessments and intervention of different types of speech, language , communication and swallowing disorders and their relevant management. Participants will first acquire practice knowledge and skills of assessment of speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders that are born or acquired to individuals across life span. Then participants will then be able to develop intervention and teaching plans based on critical evaluation of literature; and to make responsible decisions about assessment and treatment options based on critical appraisal of current practice and evidence. Topics will include standardized and non-standardized assessment procedures and principles; cultural and linguistic issues in assessment; development of assessment protocols; principles of differential diagnosis; general principles of intervention; selection, sequencing, evaluation, and termination of intervention goals, behavior modification, teaching and scaffolding strategies; data sampling and collection; service delivery models and collaborative partnership in a wide scope of practice field ; individual and group therapy techniques; individualized education and family service plans; response to intervention, treatment efficacy and evidence- based practice; report writing and professional correspondence. The last main learning area will be on professional and technical writing that is necessary in the practice of speech-language pathology.
