The advancement of knowledge depends on systematic, rigorous, and theoretically-informed approaches and scientific methods of investigation. As an introduction to research methods in special education study, the course examines the research process in its broadest context, covering areas such as: philosophy of science, theories of knowledge, research and statistical methodologies, ethical decision processes, and communicating research outcomes. It provides a basic grounding in research design and data analysis for scientific discovery. The course will cover a selection of quantitative and qualitative research methods that generate answers to specific research questions in special education issues.
