COMPARATIVE EDUCATION AND POLICY MAKING
Module Synopsis
單元概要
Education is a non-negligible part of nation states’ economic and social policies. Some nations have annual expenditure on education larger than on military. This and other phenomena are calls to the field of comparative education for critical analysis of the role of state in education and vice versa—the significance of education in nation building and sustaining. This course examines the interplay between education and nation state in a world that is increasingly market-oriented and purportedly globalizing. Students are expected to design and carry out an evaluative study or critical analysis of specific instances of comparative education being used in policy making. The course is largely learner-directed (doctoral students’ own personal enquiry and analysis) with guidance provided by the lecturer. The students will be assigned required readings and other resources from which they will address the specific policy issues in education they will examine. The lecturer will play the role of critical mentor throughout.
