This course is designed to enable students to learn and integrate theories and practices about community in relation to development. Students will consider the meaning of community in the light of related concepts, such as educated public, community/society binary, as well as the historical rise of public sphere, media, communitarian movement and community of practice. In enhancing students’ knowledge about community condition and issues, students are expected to examine some real- world issues for community development at local, regional and global levels. By learning about and understanding communal issues and their economic, social, environmental, political, ethical and psychological dimensions, students will enhance their knowledge about the role of community in development. |
