In this course, the concept of positive communication and its applications in contemporary educational settings will be explored from the perspectives of language, pedagogy, psychology and sociology. Students of the course will develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the ability of positive communication to transform learners’ paradigms about community and self, as well as impact settings ranging from the subject classroom to the school culture. Practical skills for the practice of this essential tool for educators will also be explored. The examination of positive communication and its potential impact will include an overview of theoretical perspectives; case studies of applications of positive communication in educational practice; critical reflections on individual experience; the psychology of positive verbal and non-verbal communication; and strategies for positive communication with a variety of student populations and other stakeholders. The course will include a variety of methods including lecture, workshops, blended learning, discussion and activities to ensure a coherent grasp of the theoretical and applied features of positive communication.
