Module Code 單元編號 ENG3332 Module Title 單元名稱 DISCOURSE ANALYSIS AND COMMUNICATION IN BILINGUAL SOCIETIES Module Synopsis 單元概要 This course applies students’ knowledge of discourse analysis to examine how discourse functions in bilingual interactions, especially involving English. The theoretical frameworks including speech act theory, interlanguage pragmatics and speech accommodation theory are introduced. Discourse data that involve the ways Chinese speakers of English communicate among themselves and with English-L1 speakers will be used for illustration and discussion throughout.
