This course aims to provide an introduction to different aspects of child and adolescent development from a lifespan perspective. It introduces factors and processes in child and adolescent development and psychological adjustment, including critical concepts, theories and studies that provide a broad understanding of the nature and needs of individuals at child and adolescent stages. This course is designed to facilitate students’ ability to appreciate and critically examine major theoretical traditions and research studies in child and adolescent development, understand diversity of influences on the perceptual, cognitive and social developments of children and adolescents, have a clear understanding of the contemporary issues in children and adolescents, such as career development and life planning, self- harm and suicidal ideation, child abuse, crisis intervention and management, bullying, addiction, gender and sexuality, separation and loss, and mental health issues.
