CAREER GUIDANCE: INFORMED CAREER DECISION MAKING

This course is designed to enable serving teachers to understand the three components of informed career decision making: self-understanding, understanding the world of work, and the career decision making process. Participants will use global perspectives and multi-cultural dimensions to analyze contemporary career development practices in different countries in order to understand the changes and requirements of the world of work in the 21st century. With comprehension of the global trends and local development of related policies and research about junior and senior students, participants will further examine the theories and models of career development on their application to the local school context. Various career assessment tools will be introduced in this course to enable participants to make use of the results to enhance students’ self-understanding and inform their career planning. Participants are encouraged to use cultural perspectives to critically review their influences on students’ career decision making processes.
