Jockey Club SMILE Project

Supported by the Education Bureau (EDB), the Jockey Club SMILE Project received funding of over HK$10 million from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust as one of the Chief Executive’s Community Projects 2012/13. Jointly launched by the Centre of Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education (CSENIE) and the Department of Special Education and Counselling (SEC) at HKIEd, the three-year project will provide school support services with a view to enhancing the development of inclusive education, such as on-site support for teachers, staff development programmes and talks for parents in relation to the handling of students with AD/HD and intellectual disabilities.

More than 140 primary and secondary schools will benefit from the three-year scheme. Among the schools participating in the project, 24 will receive school-based support with not less than 108 service hours per year from HKIEd, while the other schools will receive consultation services of not less than 18 hours a year. The services provided to schools may include curriculum adaption, student self-management techniques and staff training etc., based on the genuine needs of each school.
