Peter Tze Ming NG is the Professor of the Department of Educational Policy and Administration and the Director of the Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education. Prof. NG attained his Ph. D. in Education from the University of London Institute of Education, England, UK. He has been a Research Fellow at Yale University, New Haven in 1991-92, an Adjunct Professor at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Berkeley, USA in 1992, a Distinguished Fellow at University of San Francisco, USA in 2002, a Visiting Fellow at Cambridge University, England in 2005 and a Senior Research Fellow of Oxford Centre for the Study of Christianity in China in 2007. He was also appointed The Henry Martyn Lecturer of Cambridge University in 2007, and was elected the Chairman of North East Asian Council for the Study of History of Christianity (2007-2009).
Prof. Ng has extensive interests and experiences in areas related to religion, education and Chinese society. His research interests ranges from Religious Education and Social Changes, Curriculum Development of Religious Education, Moral Education, Life Education and Spirituality Education in a Modern, Secular and Pluralistic Society, Christian Education and Chinese Society, the History of Pre-1949 Christian Higher Education in China and Comparative Studies in North East Asian countries. He has acquired a number of competitive research grants including the followings from Research Grants Committee, Hong Kong: "Thirteen Points of Light: Christian Colleges/Universities and China's Modern Transformation." (1996-98), " The Christian Dreams - Models of Christian Colleges/Universities in North East Asian Countries." (2004-2006) , " Between Globalization and Localization: Comparative Research on Christianity in Chinese Societies¡¨ (2006-2008) and " Religion and Social Integration in Chinese Societies: Exploring Sociological Approaches to the Study of Religion in the Chinese World¡¨ (June 2007).
Since 1989, Prof. Ng has established extensive networks with scholars and educational institutions in Mainland China. He has been appointed Research Associate of Huazhong Normal University (1993-1994) and The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (2001), Visiting Scholar of The People¡¦s University of China (2001), Consultative Committee Member of Moral and Religious Studies Centre at Qing Hua University, Beijing (2002-2004). Presently, he is serving as Adjunct Professor at Shanghai University (2005-2008), Sichuan University (2007-2008) and Lanzhou University (2007-2010).
Locally, besides teaching at the Department of Religion (renamed Department of Cultural and Religious Studies from 2004) in the Chinese University of Hong Kong since 1985, Prof. Ng has been serving as Part-time Lecturer at CUHK¡¦s School of Education (1979-1982 & 1985-1989) and at HKU¡¦s Faculty of Education (1989-1991), teaching courses for the Diploma of Education, Advanced Diploma of Education and Master of Education programmes, plus field supervision of Religious Studies in secondary schools. At the foundational levels, Prof. Ng has been teaching at St. Catharine¡¦s School for Girls, Kwun Tong from 1972-1982. He has also a wide scope of experiences and profound understanding of foundational education in Hong Kong, working actively as a member of School Management Board for eleven primary or secondary schools in the past 34 years and serving as Supervisor and Chairman of School Management Board for more than 20 years.
