International January -- Celebrating European Culture

Fashion trends, freshly made crepes and delicacies, and insights into study in Europe by returning HKIEd exchange students all contributed to a fantastic afternoon yesterday.

Those who attended were treated to an amazing demonstration by Dara, an exchange student from Paris, of the latest trends in French makeup yesterday afternoon. Four lucky volunteers were chosen as models.

"The make-up demonstration was amazing! I’d like it very much."

"We learnt some French, had some great food, and made some new friends. They are all so interesting and lovely!"

Several recently returned HKIEd exchange students from universities in the United Kingdom, France and Sweden shared their tips and experiences. Adrian Ting from CLE shared his rich knowledge of living and studying in Sweden. What a delight!

"After the presentations, I now know where I’d like to do exchange."

International January -- Celebrating the North America Culture

"This was just an awesome afternoon! We really liked his music, especially the cello"

"It was so easy to be moved by his music! There was something speical, like magic! It was informative and enchanting"

Those students and staff members who attended the North America Festival yesterday were treated and amazed by the talents of Brian, a Music major and exchange student from Butler University (USA).

‘Beautiful music’ is an understatement – the wonderful performance, including pop, jazz, and classical music was more of an “experience” and has been definitely marked as a major highlight in the IO’s “International January” celebrations.

Several recently returned HKIEd exchange students from universities in Canada also were involved, sharing their tips and experiences. Meaghan Anne, a ETA, shared her rich knowledge of living and studying in the United States. There was also a very interesting collection of university brochures and books about the USA and Canada on display. For those who missed out, the display will be open for all in the IO lounge for the remainder of the week.

"We were given very compreshensive information and this will help us in making a wise choice of an exchange destination."

International January -- Celebrating the Australia and Asia Culture

For those who braved the cold, wet and windy weather, the third and final festival of International January was a bright and exciting experience.

The afternoon was kicked off by the President, Prof. Anthony Cheung and Victor, the Acting President of the Student Union’s warm welcome to the 21 new exchange students.

Epin then provided everyone with a cup of sweet and hot Teh Tarik – Malaysian traditional pulled tea! Our new exchange students showed their skills in assisting Epin and proved themselves to be highly-skilled and very fast learners!

Hot food and Chinese calligraphy of lucky Chinese New Year phrases were complimented by wonderful presentations from past and current exchange students.

The whole afternoon was a celebration of different cultures and demonstrated the ease in which friendship can be made despite differences in languages and backgrounds.

This final highlight of International January was a fitting end to what has been a glorious month-long sharing of culture and experience. The IO thanks all the staff and students who have participated so willingly in making this inaugural event such a success!
