In order to expand the scope of relevant expert networks and driving forces in different areas of education leadership and school quality, the Centre also invites locally or internationally renowned researchers, educators and practitioners to join the Centre as Centre Fellows. Professor Philip HALLINGER
Head of College of Management, Mahidol University
Bangkok, Thailand

Professor Philip HALLINGER is the head of College of Management of the Mahidol University. Previously, he was a Professor of the Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, and the Centre for Leadership Development of Chiang Mai University.

Professor HALLINGER is a leading figure in leadership development for school leaders. His research interests include organizational change and improvement, leadership theory and leadership development, problem-based learning, as well as culture and leadership.

For the past decade, Professor HALLINGER has directed the Vanderbilt International Institute for Principals, a research and development center focusing on leadership development for school leaders. Holding joint appointments at universities in Thailand and Australia, he has also been a leading proponent of examining how culture influences the exercise of leadership and organizational change. In conjunction with this international research, he has also been active in assisting institutions to start educational leadership centers in Thailand, Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. He is co-author of the Problem-Based Leadership Development (1997) which draws on the authors' experience in adapting problem-based learning to the training of leaders.

Professor Tony TOWNSEND

Professor Tony TOWNSEND is the chairman of the Department of Educational Leadership of the College of Education, Florida Atlantic University. Previously, he was an Associate Professor of the Faculty of Education of Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. He was the former President of the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement and formerly the Regional Director (Pacific) for the International Community Education Association.

Professor TOWNSEND is one of the pioneers and leading figures in school reform, school improvement and community involvement in education. He has also written many articles, chapters and books on these areas include Effective Schooling for the Community: Core Plus Education (1994), Restructuring and Quality: Issues for Tomorrow's Schools (1997), The Primary School in Changing Times: The Australian Experience (1998), Community and Parent Support for Schools (1998), and Third Millennium Schools: A World of Difference in Effectiveness and Improvement (1999).

His research interests include student learning, global education and future issues for education. He has worked with departmental staff, principals, teachers, parents and school communities in more than 25 countries, including Thailand, South Africa, U.S.A., U.K., Canada and the South Pacific, and recently has been involved in principal leadership programs in Australia, Thailand, South Africa and Fiji.
