Programme Aims
This programme aims to provide practitioners or intending practitioners in Professional and Vocational Education (PVE) settings with the skills, understandings and aptitudes to work effectively, efficiently and confidently as professional teachers, instructors, trainers, educational designers and change agents. The programme provides participants with the opportunity to build upon their existing disciplinary knowledge, integrating it with the educational learning that is the core of the programme.
Graduates of the programme are expected to demonstrate:
- the ability to design, implement, and evaluate educational and training interventions to meet different learning needs within their field of practice;
- proficiency in designing, managing, and evaluating contextualised, project-based, on-the-job, enquiry-based learning, and competence-based assessment of learning;
- the ability to evaluate critically their own educational practice and to develop and implement means of improving it;
- an up-to-date and critical understanding of both the PVE context in which they work and current practical knowledge, policies, and practices pertinent to it;
- an informed commitment to working ethically and to continuing improvement in their educational practice through lifelong learning; and
- a readiness to respond constructively to changes in the wider educational context and contribute to advances in their field of educational practice.

Programme Features
- The programme provides the opportunity for teachers in all fields of PVE to obtain a professional qualification with QTS eligibility at Bachelor's degree level.
- It also provides the opportunity for skilled practitioners to obtain a teaching qualification for teaching in Applied Learning and other vocational fields.
- It uses a flexible teaching-learning approach, including face-to-face classes and teaching-learning engagements held on-line and in industry and other workplace settings.
- The Field Experience is contextualised to each participant's area of PVE practice, which enables a tailor-made supervision of each student.
- Elective courses are selected from a range of alternatives, which helps students build up a broad professional knowledge base.

Programme Structure
This is a 3-year part-time in-service programme consisting of 60 credit points (cps). The programme is delivered through face-to-face teaching, online teaching and individual/small group supervision. Classes are normally held in weekday evenings and/or on Saturdays, while other arrangements will be made when necessary. The programme is structured around 5 domains as follows:

- Developing and Maintaining Networks in PVE
- Developing Learning Resources in PVE

- The Critically Reflective Practitioner in PVE

Certain elective courses will be offered occasionally or on an alternative-year-basis. Other approved elective courses may be selected from those offered by other programmes of the Institute.
Academic Studies
This domain involves the approved studies pertinent to PVE, including curriculum-specific pedagogy, where appropriate, depending on entry qualifications and experience. Participants may be required to study the following courses plus other courses selected from those offered by other programmes of the Institute or other higher education providers.

Field Experience
This domain provides participants with a range of supervised teaching experiences in appropriate PVE contexts to develop their teaching capabilities, through drawing upon the educational research and theory studied in the other domains. Participants will be able to develop and implement practices to address weaknesses and build upon strengths in teaching performance, and to apply their learning in designing, implementing and evaluating a substantial course of teaching.
Workplace Learning Project
This domain provides participants with the opportunity to draw together the personally important learning from their engagement in and through each of the previous courses studied in the programme.

Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction is normally Chinese. English or Putonghua is adopted as the language of instruction for some courses, when necessary.

Entrance Requirements
To be eligible for admission, applicants should normally:
- hold qualifications pertinent to their field of educational practice to Associate Degree level or equivalent; and
- have at least two years of working experience and workplace learning in and pertinent to their field of educational practice.
Applicants do not possess an Associate Degree but fulfill the following conditions may be invited to attend an interview and be considered on a case by case basis.
- have successfully completed other educational or professional programmes including recognized professional development programmes;
- have extensive professional practice in a related field or discipline; and
- provide evidence on their qualification and experience in the form of a portfolio which may include certificates, statements of service, photographic or video presentation of the artifacts from completed projects, job description, recommendation letter etc.
